White Ribbon – Walk a Mile

Zonta Toronto works with White Ribbon to show our commitment for ending violence against women on several initiatives including the annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser, which is a one-mile walk through Toronto’s financial district in heels. This year’s walk was held  on May 30th, 2018 in David Pecaud Square.
White Ribbon is the world’s largest movement of men and boys working to end violence against women. Starting in 1991, White Ribbon asked men to wear white ribbons as a pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls. Since then the White Ribbon has spread to more than 60 countries around the world.

Birthing Kits

inbox girls
Zonta Toronto is dedicated to providing a clean and safe birthing environment for women in developing countries to reduce the incidence of infant and maternal illness and mortality. Every hour, 33 women die of complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. An estimated 385,000 women die annually in childbirth, many from preventable infections.  Most women we assist have little or no help during childbirth because they live in isolated areas, transport is unavailable, or it is culturally uncommon to seek medical assistance. By providing a clean birthing kit these mothers will have the resources to reduce infection. We work with well-known NGO’s who distribute our birthing kits and empower women through education.
